Biography
Sarah Meyohas (French-American, born in 1991) holds a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Finance from the Wharton School. In 2015 she received an M.F.A. in Photography from Yale University.
She had solo shows at 303 Gallery, New York in 2016, Galerie PACT, Paris (2017 and 2019), Independent Régence, Brussels, RedBull Arts Studios, New York in 2017, at Disjecta Contemporary, Portland and at Wasserman Projects, Detroit in 2018. Her work was also part of various group exhibitions, at Aperture Foundation, Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Fisher Parrish, New York, at the Open Space Contemporary of London etc.
In 2017, Sarah Meyohas was listed on Forbes 30 Under 30 and has appeared on CNBC, PBS, and CBC. Her work is often featured in such publications as; The New York Times, Artforum, Vice, Time, Wired, Fortune, Whitewall, T Magazine, Nowness, The Atlantic, Bloomberg View, i-D, AnOther, The Cut, Wallpaper, and Harpers Bazaar. She appeared on the cover of the 20th Anniversary Edition of Flaunt Magazine, Fall 2018.
Sarah Meyohas is a conceptual artist whose practice considers the nature and capabilities of emerging technologies in contemporary society. Using the familiar emblems of biological life, Meyohas investigates the complex operations that increasingly govern our world: soaring birds, created using augmented-reality software, flock in unison with the frenetic variations of the stock market; rose petals, aggregately identical but individually unique, comprise the dataset for their AI-created equivalents; Bitchcoin, a cryptocurrency backed by physical artworks, questions the speculative value of cryptocurrency and the ineffable value of art. Meyohas creates an intelligible visual language to articulate the systems and technologies that increasingly influence our world.
Sarah Meyohas (franco-américaine, née en 1991 à New York, USA) est une artiste conceptuelle dont la pratique s’intéresse aux capacités des technologies émergentes dans la société contemporaine. Elle crée crée un langage visuel intelligible pour articuler les systèmes et les technologies qui influencent de plus en plus notre monde : des oiseaux planants, créés à l’aide d’un logiciel de réalité augmentée, volent à l’unisson des variations frénétiques du marché boursier ; des pétales de rose, globalement identiques mais individuellement uniques, constituent l’ensemble de données pour leurs équivalents créés par l’IA ; Bitchcoin, une crypto-monnaie adossée à des œuvres d’art physiques, remet en question la valeur spéculative des crypto-monnaies et la valeur ineffable de l’art.
Meyohas été exposée à New York chez Red Bull Arts, 303 Gallery, Marianne Boesky et au New Museum of Contemporary Art, ainsi qu’au Barbican Centre de Londres, au Jameel Arts Center de Dubaï et au Ming Contemporary Art Museum de Shanghai. Elle a été citée dans le Wall Street Journal, le New York Times, Vice et Artforum, et est apparue sur CNBC, PBS et CBC. Son film Cloud of Petals, présenté pour la première fois à la galerie PACT en 2017, a été projeté dans divers festivals de cinéma du monde entier, notamment le Slamdance Film Festival et le Locarno Film Festival. En 2017, elle a été nommée sur la liste Forbes 30 under 30.
Meyohas est diplômée en finance et en relations internationales de l’Université de Pennsylvanie et, en 2015, elle a obtenu un M.F.A à l’Université de Yale.
