Like an avatar, he reflects, transforms and distorts. Here we might consider the topic of desire and the constructs and conventions that service the industry of desire. Lacan’s desire only truly exists in fantasy – once satisfied it is by measure rendered non existent. Peter Pan harnessed to a hand crafted wooden hook, is both present and not, his eyes wide shut. Indeed the presence of the gaze and of intimacy extend outwardly – a blurry eye ripped like a scar in Peter’s back looks upward and an upholstered eye shaped plinth descends to the floor. Captain Hook who appeared previously as an other, as an external threat, has been removed from the work, only his now impotent hook remains. We are offered the conflictions of intimacy and attention, and in fetish we find our inherent entanglement with objects, with desire, with danger and mortality.
